Treatments offered at Harron Neurosurgery include:
Spinal Fusion
A surgical procedure used to stabilize the spine by fusing (or uniting) vertebrae to cease motion. The surgery involves using bone grafts or additional bone around the spine.
Anterior Cervical Discectomy
A common surgical procedure used to treat damaged cervical disc (disc in the neck). It is generally reserved for patients who are experiencing significant pain and weakness due to nerve root compression.
Craniotomy
The temporary removal of a section of the skull to expose the intracranial compartment. The bone flap (removed section of skull) is replaced when the operation is complete.
Lumbar Laminectomy
A procedure performed to alleviate pain from lumbar spinal stenosis. This surgery is also known as decompression surgery.
Artificial
Cervical Disc
A procedure used to remove a damaged disc and replace it with an artificial disc. The artificial disc acts as a joint allowing the normal function of the neck: rotation, flexion, extension and bending to be restored.
Spinal Cord Stimulator
A Spinal Cord Stimulator or SCS is a device that is made specifically to stimulate the spinal cord and spinal nerves. It produces a tingling sensation that blocks the brain’s ability to discern the previously perceived pain.
Ventriculo-
peritonial
Shunt
A hollow tube implanted in the brain to drain CSF to the peritoneal cavity or abdomen. The VP shunt is used for conditions such as hydrocephalus where the intracranial pressure may readily increase.
Spinal
Decompress-
ion
This surgery involves an incision anywhere along the spine to expose the vertebrae and perform a laminectomy, discectomy or a spinal fusion to reduce pressure on the nerve root.
Intrathecal Pain Pump
Designed to administer drugs directly to your spinal cord. The pain pump delivers medication directly into the CSF providing quicker pain relief.
Micro-Discectomy
A minimally invasive surgical procedure performed on patients with a herniated disc in the lumbar spinal region. Small instruments are used to remove small pieces of disc material to relieve pressure on nerves.
